A Serene Design Refresh for a Georgian Home in Forest Hill
Greetings, design enthusiasts! We’re thrilled to lift the curtain on our latest project—a exploration of a serene, sophisticated design for our client’s living room and dining room in Forest Hill. In this project, we had the pleasure of transforming the interiors for a lovely Georgian- style home in Toronto. Their home possessed a sound architecture that needed little structural renovation, so this project was primarily focused on providing fresh modern approach for our clients. Our discerning clients also possessed a significant art collection, which we gladly incorporated into the new design for the rooms.
Step into Serenity: The Living Room
Entering the living room, our goal was to create an immediate sense of serenity. In this space, we strove for a harmonious blend of contemporary aesthetics and refined comfort. The space is anchored by sleek, streamlined furniture pieces that exude modern simplicity while inviting relaxation.
The color palette is light and fresh, featuring warm whites, calming aquas, and rich teals, creating a complementary canvas that allows the client’s art collection to shine.
Custom draperies in the most luminous fabric softly frame the natural light, adding an understated elegance to the room.
Sumptuous materials further enhance the textural refinement of the room. We opted for soft cut velvets, plush upholstery and luxurious wool rugs to counterbalance the use of stone accents and iron throughout. Delicate lighting adds a contemporary contrast to the traditional arrangement.
Every detail is meticulously curated, from sculptural accents to thoughtfully placed décor elements, creating a space that is both visually captivating as it is inviting.
Timeless Sophistication: The Dining Room
Now, let’s transition to the dining room, where the aim was to create a sense of timeless sophistication. Here, we’ve seamlessly integrated our client’s existing furniture with new additions, juxtaposing the warmth of heirloom wood pieces with sleek painted dining chairs, and linen covered case pieces to create a harmonious blend of old and new.
A palette of creamy neutrals and earthy taupes sets a soothing tone, while brass accents add touches of warmth and sophistication. A variety of textures provide depth and are found throughout the room in subtle grasscloth-covered walls, embroidered custom draperies, flocked velvet and leather dining chairs. Thoughtfully curated accessories and a gorgeous statement light fixture add layers of visual interest.
Against this serene backdrop, contemporary art pieces by a local artist (see last blog entry featuring her work) inject a vibrant energy into the space and provide an organic liveliness that balances the strong geometries found elsewhere in the room.
